CAMPAIGNERS have urged residents in Southwick to protest after a second planning application was submitted in the village.

The application, submitted by Gladman, is for 140 houses on land off Wynsome Street and follows Redrow’s application for 100 houses, which is currently being discussed by Wiltshire Council.

John Eaton, chairman of campaign group Save Our Southwick, said: “This feels like an invasion on our village.

“Wynsome Street is a very busy road and is used as an unofficial bypass for heavy goods vehicles around Trowbridge.

“If approved it will affect the balance and amenity of the village. The space has also been used recreationally for years.

“West Wiltshire has also met its housing requirement, so this development simply isn’t needed.”

It is also understood that a third application for 280 houses is being plotted on land opposite Southwick Country Park.

Mr Eaton added: “If all three applications are approved the village will grow by nearly 600 houses and simply wouldn’t be able to cope.

“Residents need to voice their opinions to keep the heart of Southwick in place.”
