MANAGER Darren Perrin will leave no stone unturned in his quest to continue Melksham Town’s trophy trail this weekend.

Last season, Melksham claimed a second Wiltshire Senior Cup victory in three years, with the club’s famous Toolstation Premier Division title triumph sandwiched between those successes in 2015.

Perrin can lead his side to further glory on Saturday when they take on Cribbs in the Les Phillips Cup final at the Tannery Ground in Street.

Mike Perrott’s header on Bank Holiday Monday was enough for Melksham to reach the final for the first time in their history as they won 1-0 at Gillingham Town in the last four.

With the prospect of another memorable day in the offing for Melksham, Perrin is desperate not to let the chance pass them by.

“We have got the opportunity to win silverware for a fourth year on the trot and I don’t think you can ask for any more than that from a group of players,” said Perrin.

“We are under no illusions, it will be a very tough game. People probably see us as the favourites but Cribbs are a good side. They are a little bit like us, perhaps not always the prettiest on the eye but they are effective.

“We will go there quietly confident and I know if we play to our potential, we are more than capable of winning the game but if we don’t, we will get beat.

“It’s the first time we’ve reached this cup final in the club’s history, so it will be a special day for me because I am a Melksham lad. I have managed other teams but Melksham have always been my team because of the association I have through my parents.

“It is not about me, though, it’s about the players and the club as a whole. There are a lot of people who have put a lot of hard work in over the last six or seven years to make Melksham Town the force it is in the Toolstation League.”

It was a doubly good Bank Holiday weekend for Melksham as a thumping 5-1 victory at home to Wells City in their final league game on Saturday saw them wrap up a third-placed finish in the league.

That has have given Melksham the possibility for further celebrations down the line as it will mean they will take up the Toolstation League’s second promotion place, should the league be given an additional one as a result of restructuring in the tiers above which will take place in the coming weeks.

Perrin added: “In terms of the league, we have done what we needed to do and now it is in the hands of other people to see what might happen.”
