A NEWSAGENTS which has not been able to deliver its papers on time in recent weeks due to a paperboy shortage is on the hunt for new recruits.

Diamond News in St Thomas Road, Trowbridge, is looking for people aged 13 or above to take on the daily paper run, which lasts around 45 minutes.

In recent weeks shop owners Kathy and Bill Wyllie have had to carry out the run themselves due to a lack of staff, which has meant papers have been going out later than usual and the shop is not flourishing like it once was.

Mrs Wyllie said: “We are desperate for a paperboys or retired people looking for a morning activity to come on board.

“We are a great shop and a staple part of the community but we need some new recruits to help us keep up our excellent service, as lately we have not been able to.

“Being a paperboy is a great job, you get to enjoy the fresh air in the morning and meet lots of people as you do it, as lots of people tend to have a chat with you after you deliver their paper.”

The job involves starting work at 7am every weekday and 7.30am at weekends, delivering a selection of national and local newspapers to the houses of residents in the north of the town.

“We were fine up until around six months ago, but then we started to find that we couldn’t seem to recruit any new paperboys after several had to leave for various reasons,” added Mrs Wyllie.

“This is not just a job for boys; we’ve had girls do it before and we would love to hear from them too.”
