OVER 200 amateur runners from running clubs all over Wiltshire took part in the second Dilton Dash at the weekend, raising vital funds for the village’s pre-school in the process.

Organised by local events company Redfish Events, the 10k race around Dilton Marsh was entered by 169 runners, beating last year’s total of 127, and the 3k race attracted 60 runners.

The women's 10k race was won by Veryon Cranston with Philippa Brewer in second and Alex Ridour in third, while the men's 10k run was won by Daniel Piper, with Adrian Johan in second and Peter Veleski in third.

Mollie Middleton was the winner of the women's 3k race and Adam Powell the winner of the men's.

Organiser Tracey Hyde said: “It was another brilliant event and great to see more runners than last year – that to us was proof that we’re gaining followers.

“Lots of people came up to us afterwards and said that they enjoyed the course, adding that it was challenging but not too hard.

"We listened to the feedback after last year's run and improved the things people suggested, such as having more marshals this year.

“We’ve already got some more exciting events lined up which we hope will be just as well supported as the Dilton Dash – we will be announcing details soon.”

Spencer Leak, 41, travelled to Dilton Marsh with his wife and seven-year-old twin sons, Evan and Alex, to take part in the 3km run.

He said: “There was a great atmosphere with plenty of people out on the streets cheering everyone along.

“As we powered up the hill it was great to see the runners from the 10k cheering my little boy on as he sped past them.

“My wife also thoroughly enjoyed her run with our other son, just 10 places behind. I understand that Alex was the first Under 10 across the line on the basis that I was the first adult a few yards behind him.

“It was a really well organised event, with great cake sale and community feel.

“Tracey was helpful with communication leading up to the event and we look forward to coming again next year.”
