A YOUNG boy from Warminster currently in remission from leukaemia and his family held a cake sale to raise money for the hospital ward in which he received treatment.

Five-year-old Finn Martin, from Warminster, aided by his hard-working family, held the cake sale at Minster Primary School in Warminster, where he attends, on Wednesday afternoon and raised £400 for the Piam Brown children’s ward at Southampton Hospital.

As soon as Finn, his brother Archie Martin, mum Debbie Martin and sister Eli Hodson set the stall up in the school hall with a tempting selection of homemade cakes, pupils, their parents and teachers flocked in their droves.

Mrs Martin said: “It went really well, we thought we would raise £50 at most but managed to do much better and raise £400, which will go towards improving the ward.

“My mum and her gang of old ladies all chipped in by making cakes and they also donated £40 to the overall total which was lovely.

“Meanwhile my husband, Andy, made his own batch of cakes and took them to his colleagues on the building site which boosted the total further.

“We had a real network of cake-makers which helped us raise a really brilliant amount and we were all chuffed.

“Finn was over the moon to see that much raised - when we counted all the money he couldn’t believe how much there was.

“We want to say a big thank you to everyone who made cakes and to Mrs Tudor for letting us hold the cake sale at the school.”

The keen swimmer is still receiving chemotherapy to keep the cancer at bay but is doing well, said his mum.

“I find his positivity and attitude so inspirational every day,” she added.

“He never complains after chemo, he just bounces around as if it’s nothing - he's a real trooper.

“He’s back at school full time now and is swimming a lot. He had to miss a whole year of swimming lessons but he’s now back doing all the things he used to in the pool which is great."
