WILTSHIRE Rural Music School has plans to take its workshops on the road after securing a grant from Asda Trowbridge.
The school, based in Gloucester Road, Trowbridge, will deliver a programme of workshops based on the individual wants and needs of various communities across Wiltshire, starting in September.
It is holding a taster singing session at the Jubilee Hall in Bratton today (Monday, June 12) and will hold a second on July 13 at the same venue.
Ben Vleminckx, the school’s creative director, said: “We appealed to be part of Asda’s token scheme and were delighted to be awarded £200.
“The money will go towards our new initiative, Music On Your Doorstep, in which we will take music workshops to villages across Wiltshire including Bratton and Pewsey.
“We’re going to gauge interest at the two taster sessions before rolling out the initiative in September.
“Our aim is to create a network of musical activity across the county to try and meet the needs of individual people.
“There are some isolated villages in Wiltshire with poor transport links, but we don’t think that should be a barrier to people getting involved with music.”
The musicla workshops include African drumming, DJing, singing and more, depending on what the community wants.
Wiltshire Rural Music School (WRMS) is a registered charity originally established in 1933 to further the revival of music in English country life in Wiltshire.
Of the 13 such schools established, WRMS is one of the few still remaining in near original form.
