FRIENDS, family and residents came together at Watersmead Residential Home in Westbury on Friday to celebrate the fifth annual Care Home Open Day.

From 10am-4pm, the White Horse Way home welcomed locals to the venue for a day of entertainment, song and dance, cream teas and a special lunch, which Mayor Gordon King also came along to.

Activities co-ordination Cath George said the day was a huge success and also provided an opportunity for more people to help out as volunteers, as well raising awareness about the 50-bedroomed care home.

"It was a really enjoyable day, there was a great atmosphere and the residents absolutely loved it," she said.

"This year's theme was about friendship and you could see that there was such an inviting and friendly feeling about the place.

"It was a good way of raising awareness about our care home as many people do not know about us. People were very complimentary about the home and the set-up we have here which was nice.

"One part of the day that was particularly popular was our afternoon day at the races, where we put on a DVD on and people pretended they were part of it all. If we can get some more helpers along that would be great."

Care Home Open Day is a national event that gives local people the opportunity to learn more about the services at the heart of their community.
