A NEW care has opened its doors in Trowbridge.

Goodson Lodge in Hilperton Road welcomed its first residents earlier this month - all of whom were greeted with bouquets of flowers and cards.

Run by The Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT), one of the UK’s largest not for profit care providers for older people, Goodson Lodge is a specialist dementia care centre, delivering a person-centred approach to dementia care.

General manager, Sara MacCormack, said: “I am really excited to be leading the team at Goodson Lodge.

"My experience in the care sector has taught me how important it is to deliver high quality, person centred care, where people feel valued and are able to continue to do the things that are important to them. I want Goodson Lodge to be a creative and supportive environment for everyone living and working here.

"Everyone moving in will have a tailor made care plan, ensuring that all their needs and wishes are known and met. We are planning a phased moving in process so that full support can be given to each individual during their transition period.”

Goodson Lodge, which is built on the site of its former home, The Paddocks, offers accommodation for 64 residents and is the OSJCT’s fourth new home in the county in addition to its existing estate of 17 homes.

Every resident has their own spacious bedroom, with en suite wet room facilities and the OSJCT hope that the place promotes reminiscence as therapy.

Ms MacCormack added: “This is a brand new facility and the teams have been specially selected through a comprehensive recruitment process. We have all trained together and share a common goal to provide the very best quality of life for those who have chosen to come and live here.

"We also want to play our part in the wider community, so we will be inviting our local neighbours to come and share events and occasions with us, as well as making sure our residents continue to get out and about in the local area. OSJCT’s service provision is based on our corporate values of respect, dedication to caring, empowering individuals and the promotion of wider communities – anyone coming to Goodson Lodge whether to live or to work, or as a visitor, can expect to find all of those being demonstrated on a day to day basis.”
