FIREFIGHTERS captured the dramatic moments when an electricity pole caught fire yesterday.
Traffic was delayed as firefighters tackled the blaze at the junction of Silver Street with Frome Road.
Pulses of water were used to manage the situation while traffic queued for more than a mile.
Guy Tadman, watch manager at Trowbridge Fire Station, said the fire could only be put out when Southern Electricity Board engineers arrived.
David Crump, of Frome Road, said: "It was like a fire display with horrible sulphurous fumes.
"The flames were four-five metres high and there was quite toxic smoke. It did not burn for very long but it has caused a lot of trouble."
