A MAN who threatened unlawful violence towards others in Westbury has been sentenced to 51 weeks in prison.

Luke Wilson, aged 27, of High Street, Paulton, pleaded guilty to an affray charge at Salisbury Crown Court.

On April 9, Wilson became agitated following an argument between himself and a woman who is known to him, which lasted approximately 45 minutes.

The incident spilled out into Westbury town centre, onto the A350 and into Charlie’s Bar.

During this time Wilson was aggressive and acting in a threatening manner, refusing to engage with officers.

He smashed a bottle at the bar and picked up a knife. He was eventually arrested on suspicion of affray and was found to have a Stanley knife and two screwdrivers in his possession.

Sergeant Jim Suter said: "Wilson had become extremely agitated and as a result of his behaviour in the centre of Westbury, we received several calls from concerned members of the public.

"When officers attended they found Wilson making numerous threats. The incident eventually came to an end when Wilson gave himself up to officers. This was understandably a really frightening experience for all those involved.

"Fortunately, the video footage helped to speed up justice and put Wilson behind bars, as well as protect any victims. The mere presence of body worn video can often help to diffuse potentially violent situations."
