Warminster Town Council have backed the plans for a new care village on Grovelands Way after applications from last year have been revised.

The new set up will include retirement accommodation including around 60 bungalows, a children's play area and a new NHS doctors surgery, as well as around 17 and a half acers zoned for public amenity.

Warwickshire based organisation ACE Retirement are behind the plans.

Paul Trofimov, ACE Retirement director said: "We are delighted to now have the backing of the town council.

"We are still currently in the consultation period, but if our plans go ahead the town will be getting not only a great new establishment, but around 100 to 120 new jobs."

Last year ACE Retirement submitted plans for the care village but were unsuccessful mainly based on the fact that the site fell into flood zones.

After revising the plans, ACE Retirement have received approval by the Environment Agency, subject to a very minor upgrade in data which is being handled.

This is due to successfully demonstrating an adequate minimum reduction of surface water discharge, and the site being only 1.4cm into flood zone 2.

The 30 acres of land at Grovelands Way is now owned by Durmast Ltd, after managing director Richard Newton took it over from his late father 30 years ago.

Since then Mr Newton has experienced some trouble regarding the land, such as trespassing and vandalism.

Mr Newton said: "We have owned the land for 40 years and have certainly face some challenges with it.

"But I am so pleased with the progress we have made and the council voting in favour of the plans, and I fully support the ACE Retirement's application for the care village.

"Every body benefits from this plan, and it provides a much needed facility for the elderly in Warminster and the immediate surroundings."

Mr Newton and the directors at ACE Retirement hope to have received a decision from Wiltshire Council in response to their plans some time in August.
