A footpath in Bradford on Avon is to be temporarily closed by Wiltshire Council at the end of August to enable Wales and West Utilities to undertake gas mains replacement works.

The closure will affect part of Footpath 34 from its junction with Budbury Tyning for about 56 metres to its junction with Footpath 14 which goes to Downs View. It will come into force on August 29 and will last until September 9. It will be clearly indicated by traffic signs.

Wales & West Utilities Programme Controller for Wiltshire, Mick Gallavin said:

“We have been working along Budbury Tyning in the Bradford on Avon area to upgrade old metal gas pipes to new plastic ones. This is essential to keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses – and make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

"In agreement with Wiltshire Council, and so that pedestrians and our colleagues are kept safe while we work, Footpath 34 will be closed from August 29 to September 9. This is to finish the final stage of our work in the area.

“We know this work can be disruptive, but it really is essential to keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll be working hard to make sure that the work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible, whilst also keeping disruption to a minimum.

While the work is taking place, alternative routes for pedestrians are via Downs View to Churches and Winsley Road to Budbury Tyning and vice versa.
