BOTH Bradford Town and Melksham Town were unable to book their place in the next stage of the FA Cup as the Toolstation League Premier Division sides suffered narrow defeats in the extra preliminary round.

Danny Greaves’ troops found themselves 2-0 down in the opening exchanges of their game Odd Down but fought back well to make it 2-2 at the break.

Firstly, Dan Cottle cut the advantage held by the visitors, before excellent work from Sam Jordan teed up Mark Lenihan to draw level.

The second half was an eventful affair, a break in play due to an injury saw Bradford caught off guard when Odd Down notched straight from the restart.

However, Bradford responded again to make it 3-3 in the closing moments of the game but were not helped by the dismissal of Jordan late on.

With 12 minutes of extra time to play, due to the injury, the home side were again caught short as the visitors snatched the win late on.

A lack of concentration from Melksham meant they too won’t progress any further in the competition after conceding two late goals which saw them downed 2-1 by Horndean.

After a goalless first half, Mike Perrott popped up in the 50th minute to knock the ball home from a corner for Kieran Baggs’ outfit.

It looked as if the hosts would see out the win with 10 minutes to go, but an 81st minute goal from Connor Duffin revitalised the visitors, who clasped a late win courtesy of Mark Smith’s 89th minute strike.

Elsewhere in the Toolstation League Division One, Calne Town, Warminster Town and Westbury United picked up all three points in their first league matches.

Westbury were 2-0 home winners over Oldland Abbottonians, thanks to braces from new signing Dan Kovacs and Jordan Pinder.

Warminster also registered a 2-0 victory, away to Chard Town, Charlie Walton and Jack Miluk with the goals.

Calne edged a 2-1 win over local rivals Corsham Town, Keiron Gleed and Jake Brand were on target for the visitors while Leigh Rogers scored for the hosts.

Brett Partner also started off the season with a win, as they edged past hosts Almondsbury 1-0 thanks to Aaron Ledgister’s solitary effort.

Malmesbury Victoria were unable to convert their first-half advantage as they were beaten 2-1 by visitors Portishead Town.

Shane Bumphrey had given his side the advantage, but that turned out to be nothing more than a consolation.
