Botched tarmacking jobs on houses in Warminster have lead to a company facing prosecution.
The work carried out on two properties on Broxburn Road, Warminster, by Bournemouth based company South Coast Surfacing Ltd involved extremely poorly constructed driveways, to which the company and it's director Tom Bailey both pleaded guilty at Swindon Magistrates Court on July 24.
They were each fined £1,050 under under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations act.
In one case Bailey was called in to do the work, and in the other he cold called on an elderly couple in their 90's, both with dementia.
Jerry Wickham, cabinet member for public protection said: "I would ask people to be vigilant and look out for elderly and vulnerable members in the community who may be targeted by cold callers.
"I’m pleased that action has been taken against the offenders and hopefully it sends out the message that this behaviour won’t be tolerated.”
If you suspect this might be happening to someone you know, call AgeUK on 01380 727767 and see if the company in question are on their approved trade list.
