A FIRE crew from Devizes managed to release a baby locked in a car after being called out at 8.13pm last night.

The crew responded to a call following reports that a baby was locked in a car at the petrol station on Crooks Lane, Urchfont, and that the car keys were on the front seat.

The crew was quickly on the scene and managed to access the vehicle using some small tools. A Dorset & Wiltshire Fore and Rescue spokesperson said: "We don't know how the car came to be locked, or for how long the child was in the car before we were contacted."

In a separate incident, a Warminster fire crew arrived at a property within five minutes of receiving the emergency call – only to find it was a false alarm.

The incident happened at 5.47am this morning when they were mobilised to attend a residential property on the Bath Road near the junction with Roman Way.
