It is reported that some street furniture, ie roundabouts, may be removed as they are felt to contribute to traffic emissions.
In the local area there are a number of prime candidates for removal. One is the quite unnecessary roundabout on the old Devizes Road at the junction with Stourton Park. In my frequent journeys along this stretch of road I cannot remember the last time I saw a vehicle either entering or leaving Stourton Park. Ashton Road also exits on to Devizes Road and produces as much or more traffic as Stourton Park but does not have a roundabout.
The other quite unnecessary street furniture is the speed humps in Duke Street – this is a short road and traffic would have difficulty in attaining 30mph in such a distance. The road exits onto a mini roundabout where the traffic visibility is not good, so one approaches this junction with care.
