A Bradford on Avon artist has created a large community poster and adult colouring book for people of the town to colour in.

The ‘Big Community Colouring Project’ poster has been put in the Bradford on Avon Library as part of Alex Kay’s contribution to the Bradford on Avon Arts Festival from September 2 to 16.

She has also produced the ‘Bradford on Avon Colouring Books’ for sale at £10 each in venues around the town including the Tourist Information Centre in Westbury Gardens and the library.

They have been drawn and produced by Alex, a qualified artist and professional geologist who moved to Bradford on Avon about four years ago.

“I am inspired by the crowded, jumble of Jurassic building-stone buildings on the steep quarried slopes and the beautiful green corridor of the River Avon with all the wildlife and amenities that it attracts,” said Alex.

“It is full of history and life and I thought it would be fun to make an art project celebrating this lovely place to which people can contribute their own creativity and perhaps helps them to explore the town too.”

There are 24 drawings in the colouring book, which Alex began work on at the end of last year. Each page has a decorative surround which has pictorial clues about the history, wildlife or some of her favourite things in the area.

She has also included some information and references to some of the key aspects of the town.

The ‘Big Picture’ poster, size 2A0, has been produced specially for the community to colour in and is based on the colouring book project.

Alex added: “I hope people of all ages will drop into the Bradford on Avon Library every weekday afternoon from 2pm to 4.30pm, and all day on the Saturdays during the festival. Pens will be provided.”

As part of the Arts Festival, an exhibition of 150 pieces of work by over 50 different artists will be held in the West Barn on Saturday and Sunday, September 2 and 3. Each of the original artworks is small enough to fit in a CD jewel case.

Profits from the exhibition will be donated to the festival’s charity partner, the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, who are also going to be busy with creative projects over that weekend.
