DEVIZES Town were able to claim a 2-1 win at home to Calne Town, despite being reduced to nine men on Tuesday evening.

Jake Waters and Tom Slater were both on the scoresheet, with the latter being dismissed after picking up two yellow cards.

Jake Roberts was handed a straight red alongside Alex Lewis for the visitors in the first half before Slater put the hosts ahead.

Calne responded with a goal of their own 10 minutes before the break as the first half ended 1-1, before Walters then re-established a lead for the home side with a free-kick.

The visitors had a great chance to restore parity once again from the spot, but were denied the chance as Adam Walters saved.

“Overall we didn’t play particularly well on the night and Calne were probably the better side over the 90 minutes and deserved something from the game,” said manager Darren Walters.

“We can’t defend Jake Roberts, he deserved to be sent off, even though I didn’t see the incident, most people I spoke to thought it was the right decision.

“Calne caused us problems and our back four didn’t have a particularly good night, the game was pretty end-to-end.

“It was an eventful evening, Calne had a few players booked as well and it was a shame really because it wasn’t a dirty game.

“The referee got a bit card happy, he was still booking players in the 95th minute.

“At the end of the day, it is a derby game and there are going to be tackles made.”

On Saturday, Walters had watched his side lose 2-1 to Oddland Abbottonians on Saturday, Robert Mitchell with the goal.

The defeat was a third in a row for Calne, who were beaten 4-2 at home to Bradford Town at the weekend in the Les Phillips Cup.

Chippenham Park were also in midweek action as they recorded a 0-0 draw at home to Warminster Town.

However, Brett Partner will be happy with the draw as it stretches Park’s unbeaten run to four games, following their 2-1 home win over Longwell Green Sports in the Les Phillips Cup.

Malmesbury Victoria saw their cup run brought to a halt at the weekend as they were beaten 4-2 by Bishops Lydeard.

After trailing 3-0 at the break, Kevin Bridegman’s men got themselves in contention thanks to goals from Shane Bumphrey and Josh Hughes but ultimately it was too little too late.

Corsham Town slipped to a 1-0 defeat at home to Sherbourne Town, Jamie Harrison’s troops were unable to build on their win seven days earlier, after losing their opening four.
