FAMILY carers of people living with dementia are invited to a free training course in Bradford on Avon on Friday, September 15.

The six-weekly sessions will be run by Wiltshire charity Alzheimer’s Support.

They will help people understand what is happening to their relative or friend as different types of dementia develop, and focus on what they can do to support them. There are also sessions on the practical aspects of caring, including financial and legal issues.

Alzheimer’s Support community services co-ordinator Kate Sharpe said: “We run these courses twice a year. People pick up invaluable tips for how to support their relatives and how to look after themselves.

“Just meeting others in a similar situation can be helpful and carers who come often continue to get together informally after the six weeks has ended.”

The course is funded by Wiltshire Council and is free to family carers. It will be held on Friday mornings at Wiltshire Heights Care Home with the first session on September 15.
