MORE than 100 runners have already signed up to take part in the Bradford on Avon Lions Club’s fun runs this weekend.

Keen runners, joggers, toddlers and pram pushers of all ages are being invited to enter the two funds on Sunday morning.

Runners will gather near the town’s Tithe Barn at Culver Close before departing on a 2k run at 10a or a 5k run at 11am.

The inaugural Fun Runs last year attracted more than 200 runners of all ages and raised more than £1,000 for Lions charity donations to the local community and the Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

Organiser, Phil Courage, of the Lions Club, said: “We are celebrating the 100th anniversary of Lions Clubs this year and want to make this event a great success.

“The fun runs follow the outstanding success of last year’s events and are being supported by the Avon Valley Runners Club.

“The emphasis is very much on creating a family friendly event open to young children and those with disabilities as well as the more serious 5K run.”

In May, the Lions Club kicked off the 100th birthday celebrations with a Fun Day and a parade of 100 years of music, dance and classic cars. It culminated in a 100-year-old lady handing on a Lion mascot to a six- month-old baby.

People wishing to take part in the 2k fun run starting at 10am are invited to run, walk, toddle or push. It will be followed by a serious 5k run starting at 11am.

Toilets, showers, changing facilities and storage will be made available for those taking part.

To entertain onlookers, friends and relatives, the Lions Club has laid on live music from the Packhorse Band.

The 2k fun run is open to all, especially those with young children and people with disabilities. Pram pushers go free. All children – who must be accompanied by a responsible adult – will receive a medal and a goody bag.

There will be trophies for the fastest girl and boy under 8, 10 and 12 years old. Online entry is £5 or £6 on the day if places remain.

The 5k run is open to all aged 12 and over. All runners will receive a medal and a goody bag. Trophies will be presented for 1st, 2nd and 3rd for male and female runners.

There will also be prizes for male and female 40+, 50+ and 60+. Online entry is £8 or £9 on the day if places remain.

Competitors should arrive at least 30 minutes before their event to register.
