TWO members of the cast of a London West End musical and comedy show came to Bradford on Avon last weekend to improvise an ‘on-the-spot’ musical.

Justin Brett and Duncan Walsh-Atkins from ‘Showstopper! The Improvised Musical’, worked with members of Courage Performers.

The workshop was organised through Felicity Courage of Courage Performers, a performing arts youth group based in the town.

Felicity said: “I took the group to see Showstopper! The Improvised Musical at the Playhouse Theatre in Weston-super-Mare on Friday evening.

“We managed to persuade two of the cast members to come and work with our youngsters on Saturday. The aim was to inspire them to create an improvised musical on-the-spot using their own lyrics and music.”

Twenty-one young people aged 14 to 18 from Bradford on Avon and Corsham took part in the three-hour workshop in the school hall at Christ Church CofE Primary School.

Felicity added: “They were really inspired. It’s one of the hardest things to have to stand up and make up lyrics and music on the spot with no preparation.

“It’s all about owning what you do and the workshop definitely pushed them. Afterwards, Duncan and Justin said the group was one of the most talented they had ever worked with.”

Showstopper! The Improvised Musical is an improvised comedy, musical theatre show founded in London in 2008. The show is currently on tour.

Felicity founded Courage Performers 17 years ago after studying performing arts in Hertfordshire.

Courage Performers runs regular youth performing arts workshops at Christ Church School in Bradford on Avon, the Pound Arts Centre in Corsham and the Percy Community Centre in Bath.
