Police are appealing for information after car keys and a car and a vehicle were stolen during a burglary in Warminster.

The incident happened overnight at some point between the evening of Tuesday October 3 and the early hours of Wednesday October 4.

It is believed people broke into a house in Copheap Lane and stole a set of car keys, before driving off in the black Toyota Auris which was parked outside.

The victim was only alerted to the crime when the stolen car was crashed in Deverill Road, and police traced it back to an address in the town.

The crash was reported shortly before 4am and three men were seen to jump out of the car and flee the scene.

Community Policing Co-ordinator PC Charly Chilton said: “Anyone who saw anything suspicious relating to this incident, either near the address where the burglary occurred, or where the vehicle crashed, should please come forward and speak to us.

“We would also like to take this opportunity to remind people about the importance of locking all doors and windows overnight and whenever you leave the house.

"People should also take care to move keys, wallets and valuables out of sight of doors and windows, as well as remembering not to leave spare keys in hiding places such as plant pots or under stones.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Wiltshire Police on 101. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, where details can be left anonymously.
