FANS of the popular BBC TV programme ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ might like to try a few moves of their own.

A NEW programme of fortnightly afternoon social tea dances are now being held at St Margaret’s Hall in Bradford-on-Avon. They are taking place on Thursday afternoons, with the next one being held on November 9.

Bradford on Avon Town Council hopes the tea dances will make even more use of the recently-refurbished hall, which boasts a large wooden floor perfect for dancing.

Long-time dance couple Angela and Mike Dale, of Westbury, are hosting the dances on the Council’s behalf. They organise tea dances and evening ballroom dancing at Broughton Gifford Village Hall on Tuesdays and Sundays, as well as offering private lessons.

Angela, 57, has been dancing since the age of seven, while Mike, a former semi-professional musician and IT expert, has been dancing for the past 12 years.

Mike said: “Having now run tea dances in the area for over three and a half years in both Westbury Leigh and Broughton Gifford, we were delighted to be offered the opportunity by the Town Council to run dances for the residents of Bradford-on-Avon and beyond.

“What makes this venue so good is the quality of the wood floor and the sheer amount of space available for dancing, so it really suits the needs of dancers.

“The people we believe who will be attracted to this type of weekly dance are those who enjoy Sequence, Ballroom and Latin American dancing, having a cup of tea/coffee with home-made cakes etc and socialising with friends, as well as making new friends.”

Beginners and singles are always very welcome. The dances run from 2pm to 4.30pm, breaking at around 3pm for supplied refreshments.

Admission is £4.50 per person, which includes refreshments.
