Families who have lost loved ones who were cared for in the Bath RUH's critical care unit are being invited to a special remembrance gathering at the hospital.

For the first time, the RUH are holding a Light for Life gathering where each guest will ge given a star to add their loved ones name and a message.

Each star will be placed on a tree of remembrance which will be lit up later in the evening.

Critical Care Matron Gav Hitchman said: “We want to give people the opportunity to gather with friends, family and their local community to pay tribute to those they have loved and lost.

"We welcome anyone who wishes to attend, regardless of faith, from anywhere in the country, who has had contact with the Unit.

“It will be a chance for people to meet our staff again with whom they built a rapport and a relationship during their time with us.

"That’s important for staff too, who form an attachment with their patients and families at what is a very intense time.

"We hope the event will be simple and poignant and will provide comfort to many people.”

The Light for Life gathering will take place from 6pm at the Oasis Centre at the RUH on December 13.

If you would like to attend in remembrance of a lost one please email Mr Hitchman on gav.hitchman@nhs.net or write to Critical Care Matron Gav Hitchman, Royal United Hospital, Combe Park, Bath BA1 3NG.
