A TROWBRIDGE town centre church has gained a Bronze Award under the Eco Church Scheme in only two months.

St James Church reviewed its heating system and reduced its carbon footprint as well as bills by installing a much more efficient type of heating which has made the church warmer.

Rector Rob Thomas said: “It didn't take long to achieve the award because we were already doing, or had done, most of the things needed to qualify.

“We've been very pleased to have so many of our congregation committed to valuing the environment. Many of the ‘green’ things we have done have been for practical reasons.

“For example, we recently renewed our elderly heating system, reducing our carbon footprint as well as our bills by installing a much more efficient type.

“Visitors to the church have commented on the warmth of the building as well as the warmth of the welcome!

“This was especially so when we hosted a recent Trowbridge Symphony Orchestra concert, and when 260 townspeople came to the Shoppers Carol Service following the switching on of the Town Christmas lights.”
