Bradford Town boss Danny Greaves salutes quick start in FA Vase win over Team Solent

Alex Monks gave Danny Greaves’ side a dream start against Wessex League Premier Division visitors Solent with the opening goal from the penalty spot after just two minutes.

Matt Morris’ strike on the half-hour mark put the hosts in total control at Trowbridge Road and Sam Jordan and Peter Sheppard were also on target in the second period to complete the rout.

Greaves, whose side are also currently third in the Toolstation Premier Division table, was thrilled with Bradford’s flying start to the game as they killed off Solent’s hopes early on.

“It’s what we try to do. We always try to start quickly and cause teams a few problems early on, particularly at home,” said Greaves.

“We were fortunate that we got a penalty so early on but that allowed us to take control of the game and going into half-time 2-0 up, we were very comfortable.

“From there it’s about being professional and managing the game correctly and I thought we did that really well.”

Bradford resume their league programme on Saturday when they entertain mid-table outfit Brislington and Greaves is keen for his side to maintain the form that has seen them lose just once in their first 15 Premier Division fixtures this term.

The Bobcats’ Vase heroics mean they have played fewer games than any other side in the top five in the table, so Greaves is well aware that they cannot afford to let their rivals get too far ahead.

“Brislington have always been a very difficult side to play against. We played them away from home in the first league game of the season and managed to get a 1-0 win but that was a tough game,” said Greaves.

“It’s important to keep the players focused on the league, we don’t want anyone looking ahead to the next round of the Vase already.

“We are doing well in the cup competitions but that means we have played less league games than everyone else so we can’t afford to lose any more ground.”
