AN ICE warning has been issued by the Met office as snow and wet roads are expected to freeze this evening.

The yellow weather warning was released warning motorists and pedestrians that wet roads and pavements could freeze between 4pm this afternoon and11am tomorrow morning as temperatures drop.

A statement said: "Icy patches are expected to develop on Wednesday night and Thursday morning on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, as well as where showers continue to fall washing off treatment.

"Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces are possible."

Flood warnings have also been published by the flood information service for he River Avon from Malmesbury to Chippenham and Chippenham to Melksham.

A statement said: "Rivers are still responding to this rainfall. The next 48 hours are expected to be largely dry, with a forecast of more rainfall on Friday.

"River levels on the River Avon at Great Somerford are steadily rising but should be peaking towards this afternoon."

Wiltshire Council has 24 gritting vehicles which have spread more than 400 tonnes of salt on the county’s main roads.
