DRIVERS trying to commute through Bradford on Avon next month will face long delays or lengthy diversions.

Wiltshire Council intends to close two major routes through the town to allow road works to take place.

They are likely to mean long delays for traffic trying to get through the town centre, or lengthy diversions through Trowbridge and Staverton for drivers trying to get around them.

For three days - Thursday, March 8, Monday, March 12 and Friday, March 23 - the A363 through Masons Lane and Market Street will be closed from 7am to 6pm. Further 24-hour closures will also take place on Wednesday and Thursday, March 21 and 22.

They will allow Virgin Media to install ducting for future development of services for the town and for Wiltshire Council to carry out much-needed carriageway reconstruction and associated works.

Traffic will be diverted via B3109 Mount Pleasant, New Road and Springfield to the B3107 Holt Road, Woolley Street and Silver Street and vice versa.

Wiltshire Council is also planning to close the A363 and the B3107 on Sunday, March 11 from 7pm to midnight and again for 24 hours on Sunday, March 18 for carriageway reconstruction and associated works.

Through traffic will be diverted via the B3107, B3105, B3106 and A363 and vice versa.

A spokesman for the council said: “It is anticipated the works will take the stated durations to complete, depending upon local weather conditions.

“Access will be maintained for local residents and businesses where possible, although delays are likely due to the nature of the works.”
