TROWBRIDGE Town Council has given its backing to build a £8.5m relief road between Yarnbrook and West Ashton to try and improve traffic flows there.

On Tuesday, councillors welcomed the news that Wiltshire Council had received the funds to build the 2.5km relief road over fields between the A363 at Yarnbrook and Castle Lodge on the A350 past West Ashton.

However, they wanted a full cycle route from Leap Gate up to Jubilee Woods so people could get to the A350 and then onto Steeple Ashton.

Councillors added that improvements to the existing routes through Biss Meadows and the footbridge from Biss Meadows to the Ashton Park site, where the 2,600 homes will be built, should be completed.
