MELKSHAM Town Football Club are hoping the whole town will get behind them on Saturday for the biggest game in the club’s history.

They are hoping that a crowd of up to 2,000 will roar them on to victory in the FA Vase quarter final.

The Western League, Premier Division side take on Thatcham Town FC on Saturday with a 3pm kick off at the Oakfield stadium on the edge of the town.

Club presidents, Mike Perrin and Dave Phillips, and chairman Darren Perrin, hope their supporters will turn out sporting the club’s black and yellow colours to cheer the team on.

Mr Phillips said: “It really is exciting and it is probably the biggest game in the club’s history.

“We are really looking forward to the game on Saturday, being at home and with the attendance we’re hoping to get.”

Mike Perrin said: “We’re hoping to get between 1,500 and 2,000 through the turnstiles, which will be fantastic.

“It will be a great day for the club and the whole town. People are stopping me in the street to wish us luck and the town is being very supportive.”

Darren Perrin, the club’s chairman and commercial manager, said: “Thatcham Town are a tough side to beat but if we win on Saturday we will be only two games away from the FA Vase final at Wembley.”

A record crowd of 1,236 supporters roared the team to a 2-1 victory against Tring Athletic in the 5th round of the competition.

Scarves, hats and badges will be on sale at the ground and extra security, parking and medical support has been planned.

Supporters are being asked to walk to the Oakfield Stadium if they can or ask a friend or relative to drop them off.
