A YOUNG mother says she was ‘deeply shaken’’ after a group of five teenagers on bicycles boxed her in and hurled abuse at her when she was driving home on Sunday night.

Sophie Day, of Freshford, was driving along Broadmead at around 11.30pm when the bikers blocked her way in the road and then surrounded the car and swore at her.

Each time the 24-year-old tried to drive round them, they weaved about, making it very difficult to do so without knocking into them.

When she said she would call the police, they started to kick the car, push in the windscreen mirror, ram it with their bikes and even opened her door before riding off.

Now Miss Day, who has two young girls, has called on the police to take action as a similar incident took place in the town on Monday night too.

“I was deeply shaken up to say the least. I have two children and if they happened to be in the car with me, they would have been terrified,” she said.

“I was so angry. Why do these ‘kids’ think it is okay to abuse other people and endanger themselves.

“If I tried driving faster to get around then I could have knocked one of them off their bikes and I would have been the one in trouble.

“It could have been an elderly person driving so I am thankful it was me because it would have scared them so much.

“I have seen them before but I never expected this to happen to me. I couldn’t blast my horn either as it was very late at night so it would have woken people up.

“When I called the police and put it on loudspeaker, they eventually rode off. There were two of them who were leading it all because one of them said ‘What are you doing?’ when one of them opened the passenger door.

“The police need to do more than what they are doing. I called up the day after and they did a 30 minute search of the area but they found no trace of them. They need to be caught in the act as it happens at night.”

On Monday night, someone posted on Spotted in Trowbridge of a group of teenagers riding towards cars, shouting abuse, spitting and hitting vehicles too.

“This is happened too often. Apparently the person who reported it on Monday had two a young child in the back and the youths spat at the car, which is awful,” added Miss Day.

The suspects are described as male and in their mid-teens, and the main offender is described as having blonde hair and wearing a dark blue hooded top.

Community Coordinator PC Lee Pelling, from the Wiltshire West Community Policing Team, said: “This sort of behaviour is both concerning and dangerous to all road users.

“What may seem like a game can have serious consequences and could lead to a serious incident.

“I urge those involved to stop this behaviour and think about how it will impact on the safety of themselves and the wider public.
