COMMUNITY projects have the chance of getting a slice of £220,000 of funding from Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks for ideas on how to innovate community connections.

Whether it is protecting the welfare vulnerable people or improving facilities in the area, the energy company want groups to apply for the Resilient Communities Fund

Monkton Farleigh parish council were awarded a snow blade through the scheme after making their case for the piece of equipment, which has played a vital role over the last few weeks following heavy snow.

Gareth Shields, community investment manager for SSEN, said: “We are looking for projects which are truly innovative in their approach to resilience and urge communities to think outside the box to come up with genuinely innovative solutions to the issues they face.”

The funding is allocated as a proportion of the income SSEN receives from industry regulator Ofgem and so far over £1m has been distributed to 400 charities and groups in the South West region.
