THE three schools which make up the Mead Academy Trust are looking forward to taking pupils on trips in their new minibus, thanks to a £35,000 gift from the UK’s leading youth cricket and disability sports charity.

The 15-seater minibus arrived at Castle Mead School in Trowbridge last Thursday, accompanied by a representative from the Lord’s Taverners charity.

A rota has been set up so that it can be shared between Castle Mead, The Mead Primary in Hilperton and Wingfield and River Mead in Melksham.

“The children were over the moon to have it,” said Castle Mead business manager Mel Jacobs.

“We will use it so children can have access to sporting events and for children to access special needs provision or other off-site activities.

“We applied for it last summer and it was confirmed last month but to finally have it here is great.

“The Mead Trust made a contribution of £15,000 and the charity did the rest. We are so grateful for their help.

“It will be stationed at Castle Mead, where it is looking beautiful.”
