SEVEN cyclists pushed each other onto greater heights to raise £900 for the Safe Drive Stay Alive campaign which is led by Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.

After seeing the the risks of dangerous driving, graphic photos and safety advice last summer at Trowbridge Cinema, Will Whitmore wanted to raise funds for the cause.

So John Kingwell, Nigel Evans, Paul Carter, James Hart, Mike Cox, Sheila Skinner and himself all set up static bikes in their homes and cycled every day in December to reach the 404km target.

They then handed over the cheque to Ian Hopkins from the fire service on Monday.

“It was a really good but tough challenge. It is not easy doing exercise every day that gets progressively harder, let alone when it is in December,” said Mr Whitmore. “We were so moved by the show, we decided to try and help out and raise funds for it. There was a good competitive edge because we posted our times.” on a Whatsapp group.”

“In the first week we had to cycle 6.5km a day, then 10km, then 13km and then 16km but sometimes we would have to do timetrials.

“We are thinking about doing it again for sure.”
