CAMPAIGNERS in Melksham are continuing to push Wiltshire Council to give an update on its plans for the next phase of the town’s £23 million community campus development.

Colin Goodhind, of the Melksham Community Campus Monitoring Group, says they are “very worried” the scheme is already falling behind the timescales outlined last October.

The final design concept for the new campus was expected to be completed by Bath-based architects DKA by the end of March but Melksham residents are still waiting to see the drawings. The campus is supposed to be completed by 2021.

A Wiltshire Council spokesman said: “We are working closely with architects and stakeholders on final details for Melksham Community Campus and are making good progress.

“The extended design team is now being appointed so that final designs can be developed.

“The detailed designs will continue to change as they are developed, but when a final scheme is arrived at this will of course be shared with the local community.

“We will continue to update the local community through the regular Melksham Area Board meetings.

“ On a project of this scale it is not unusual for the timeline to move from time to time, however we expect to commence work on the campus in the summer of 2019; this is subject to planning and the appointment of the main contractor.”

Mr Goodhind said: “We are very worried about the further delays. We are concerned they are already adrift of the timeline outlined last October.

“We feel it is justification for setting up a group to monitor the project and for being sceptical about what is going on.”
