A NEW school, more houses and traffic lights were discussed amongst councillors at Warminster’s planning advisory committee as the council voted in favour of Bugley Barton Farm plans and the West Warminster Urban Extension.

Chairman of the Spatial Planning Review Working Group, councillor Tony Nicklin recommend some conditions that needed to be considered in regards to the Bugley Barton Farm application which includes plans for a new school.

Cllr Nicklin said: “The link road between the Bugley Barton estate and the Redrow estate should be completely linked as part of the first phase of the development and none of the properties on the site should be occupied until the school is built.”

Cllr Brett Denis, who is also the Chairman of the Kingdown Academy, said: “I was unaware that any approach had been made to the school and I feel that the lines of communication between the developer and the Kingdown Academy should be clearer.”

After agreeing on the conditions, councillors voted in favour.

Discussing the West Warminster Urban Extension, which includes more housing and better infrastructure, there were significant safety concerns with the roundabout on the A36, and the group suggested that traffic lights for the roundabout be considered.

Town clerk Fiona Fox said: “The committee debated this application at length and thanked the group for recommendations.

“Cllr Nicklin proposed no objections to the application provided that Wiltshire Council Planning Officers take note of the comments submitted by the group. The vote was unanimously in favour.”
