A TROWBRIDGE church that is looking to raise £60,000 to go towards refurbishing the place was alive with the sound of music.

The Wesley Road Methodist Church was filled with wonderful sounds, sights and smells for the celebration of the musical gift day.

The likes of Newtown Primary School, Clarity Community Choir, singers Molly Moore, Katy Millard, violinist David Parker and pianist Paul Hamel, among others, all played their part in bringing in several hundred eager onlookers.

Church member and event organiser, David Parker, said he was delighted with how the day went and was very grateful that the visitors helped to raise £3,391.38 from it all.

"It was just a fabulous day. The people who sang or played for people were just sensational. Everyone went home happy," he said.

"There was just so much musical talent taking place in our lovely church. We have not had a musical gift day at the church for many years but it was wonderful to have it back again.

"To raise that amount from the day is a really good start towards our fundraising target. We have just done some rewiring work but we need to have some new flooring and part of the hall and toilet needs redoing too. We hope to do more fundraisers in the future."

The event took place on May 12.
