DRIVERS planning to use the M4 and M5 around Bristol are advised to allow extra time and plan their journeys ahead of a series of Ed Sheeran concerts at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

The chart-topping singer-songwriter is performing at the stadium for a run of four consecutive nights from today (Thursday, June 21) to Sunday, June 24.

And with the venue opening its doors at 5pm for each of the concerts, traffic volumes are expected to increase on the M4 and M5 during the afternoon and evening peak as concert-goers head towards the Second Severn Crossing.

Gareth Price, Highways England Emergency Planning Officer for the South West, said: “We experienced increased traffic volumes with people travelling to the Rolling Stones concert in Cardiff last week, and there’s also maintenance work taking place on the train route this week.

“This could lead to even more traffic on our network, so we would advise all road users to plan ahead, check our traffic and traffic information channels and to allow extra time for their journeys.”
