A HOMELESS drop-in centre in Trowbridge will not receive any of the £312,000 government grant that Wiltshire Council has received towards helping rough sleepers.
The authority successfully bid for a grant to tackle homelessness in the county. But Breakthrough Trowbridge, which is open on Monday and Tuesday from 10am-1pm in Castle Street, will not get a slice of the pie as it does not have its own permanent base or any paid staff.
A Wiltshire Council spokesman said: “This money will go to create a dedicated outreach rough sleeper for the Trowbridge and surrounding areas who will work with Breakthrough staff, who we are already working with to support those who use the drop-in and are identified as homeless. Money will also be available for rough sleepers in Trowbridge and other areas to help support them into accommodation.”
The funding will be spent on extra night shelter spaces, three new outreach workers, a dedicated housing adviser and a project co-ordinator, along with winter night shelters in Devizes, Chippenham and Salisbury.
