MORE than 100 families took advantage of the brilliantly sunny weather over the weekend to take part in the inaugural Holbrook Scarecrow Trail.

The event on Saturday and Sunday attracted children and families associated with Holbrook Primary School as well as those from outside the local catchment area.

Co-organiser Viki Barton, chair of the school’s Parent Teachers Association, said: “It has gone really well. We were quite surprised by the number of non-Holbrook families that were taking part.

“There was a nice community feel around the area and the feedback we’ve had has been fantastic. We’ll definitely be doing it again next year.”

There were 28 scarecrows to locate on the 90-minute trail, whose theme was films.

They were all hosted by Holbrook families and friends of the school.

Eight of the scarecrows were made by each of the classes at the school, and featured characters from well-known films.

They were The Trolls movie, Toy Story, Peter Pan, Bugs Life, Antz, Robots, Finding Nemo and Harry Potter.

Other characters were all made by families and friends of the school and were on display in gardens from 10.30am on Saturday to 4pm on Sunday.

Trail maps at £3 each were available from the school on the day an included a main trail and a children’s trail. The PTA also sold refreshments to those taking part.

The total amount raised - some £612 - will be put towards school funds.

Mrs Barton, whose own four children, Chloe, 12, Kerrie, 10, Jack, 6, and Ella, 5, took part, said some of the proceeds may be put towards a school outdoor education project.

“We want to build a small ampitheatre in the school grounds where the children can sit as part of an outdoor learning project which will help to enhance the school environment for the children.”
