ST JOHN’S Primary School in Trowbridge raised more than £4,400 from its ‘best-ever’ summer fund-raising fair on Saturday.

The school in Wingfield Road staged a ‘Go Wild’ extravaganza attended by more than 700 people.

Nicola Hughes, co-chair with Sharon Buxton, of the Parents and Teachers Association, said: “It has been our best-ever year.

“People were enjoying themselves so much we had a job to get them to leave and so we extended the time from 3pm to 4pm.”

This year’s event had a ‘Go Wild’ theme, so there were plenty of animals on display to attract the visitors.

They included two meerkats and a tarantula spider from Little Zoo, birds of prey from Wings & Talons, a giant rabbit, and a giant cockroach, snakes and a python from Tropical Discovery.

The school’s new wood-smoked pizza oven was also very popular as the visitors tucked into refreshments.

Games included a bushtucker trial, a Frog in a Bog with a toilet full of slime, racing toy pigs, water warriors, a bouncy castle, and bake-off competitions for children and adults.

Other activities featured face painting and henna tattoos, and a raffle with a top prize of a spa day for two at the Royal Crescent Hotel in Bath.

More than 100 volunteers helped to make the fair a roaring success and sponsors, Town & Country Estates, hosted the Needle in the Haystack game.

Nicola added: “It was a brilliant event and we were so lucky to have good weather.

“It was a really lovely day for the local community. We even had people there who are not associated with the school.”
