CORSHAM 2nd skipper Ned Jones believes his side have been given a timely confidence boost following their 32-run win over Marshfield in WEPL Wiltshire on Saturday.

After winning the toss, Jones opted to bat first and his side went on to post a target of 172-9, with Jakob Valentine the team’s top scorer with an unbeaten 57.

On a tough bowling surface, the home side then dismissed the Marshfield reply for 140 as Craig Chaplin’s four-wicket haul set up just a second win for Jones’ side this summer.

“We won the toss and it was a baking hot day, so it was a lovely toss for us to win as we knew we wanted to have a bat,” said Jones.

“To start with, Marshfield bowled really well and we didn’t make the most of winning the toss.

“We managed to get ourselves together in the end and get up towards a competitive score.

“Then we came out and bowled well. We took our catches. It was a good win and it has given us a bit of confidence.

“We have had a few players come back into the first team as well as the second, so that will filter through.

“Hopefully the win will give us a little bit of momentum that we are able to carry into our next game.”

Calne were also successful at the weekend as they found a way past near neighbours Devizes to also claim a second win of the season.

Hosts Devizes lost the toss and were put into the field by Calne, whose skipper, Sean Adams led the way as he top scored with 66 runs.

Opener Jerron John was second best with 22, as the away side racked up a score of 182 before being all out at Devizes Sports Club.

John also had a day to remember with the ball, notching five wickets, while Pavraj Lochab provided a further four as Devizes were dispatched for 148.

Chippenham made it four wins out of five with their second in a row following a 40-run triunph away to Marlborough bottom side at the weekend.

Royal Wootton Bassett felt the full force of league leaders Warminster as they were beaten by 161 runs.

Bassett elected to field and were soon put to the sword as Pete Hickerton’s side rattled up 265-4 before declaring.

Warminster have been formidable with the ball so far this season and that proved to be the case again as they dismantled Bassett for 104.
