FITTING retractable seats for high end theatre companies, a Warminster based business have finished installed the seating for the Royal Opera House, Boston Ballet and more, and are currently working in Alexandra Palace.

Hussey Seatway, based at Centurion Way, was formed in 2003 by by a group of seating specialists with more than 80 years’ experience of design and manufacture in the UK seating industry.

In the last 15 years they have completed several projects for high end clients, and are currently working on installations in Alexandra Palace in London and Brighton Dome.

Their 30 locally employed staff have the opportunity to travel to install and service the equipment both in the UK and abroad, and are part of a joint venture with Hussey Seating Company of Maine, USA, the worlds’ best known producer of retractable seating.

Marketing manager, Jo Palmer said: “We are delighted to be providing the seating for the £26.7 million East Wing restoration project of Alexandra Palace, in London.

“With £18.8 million funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and £6.8 million from Haringey Council, the charitable trust is fundraising for the extra £1 million.

“The new venue in the East Wing will be able to accommodate 1,300 people, but has also been cleverly designed to suit more intimate numbers too.

“With specialised bespoke retractable side wing units in the stalls and fixed seating on the balcony, the Hussey Seatway installation allows a flexible use of the space.

“The seating has been perfectly designed with timber arm rests, show wood panels and the exact seating colourway.

“With the venue due to open in Autumn 2018, you can sponsor a Hussey Seatway seat. For donating £450 you get a plaque with your name on the back plate of a seat in the historic theatre.

“Hussey Seatway are so proud to be part of the huge team restoring this fantastic palace back to it’s former glory.”

Hussey Seatway are best known for their bespoke, high end work in theatres and the alike, where minimal creaks and sounds when being walked on are one of the most important features of the retractable seating.

Talking about the recent project at Royal Opera House, Jo said: “We developed a custom retractable seating system with a revolutionary touch screen electronic panel that allows for partial opening of the retractable seating.

“This enables the client to configure the system in a number of different formations to meet the exact seating requirements for the varying performances that Royal Opera House hosts.

“The system is fitted with a very high specification mahogany veneer fascia and acoustic rubber flooring to ensure the best sound.

“For Boston Ballet, this client was seeking a high performance seating system rather than a traditional bleacher, as it is essential for quiet in performances and therefore chose the Seatway TP system which is the market leading solution for performing arts venues.”

Carrying out installations on time, budget, and most importantly, safely is what the team of fully trained staff strive for when installing for each individual client, whether they be a famous theatre or a local school.

An after sales team also provides support and advice throughout the lifetime of the seating systems.
