A LOCAL appeal to raise £10,000 for Melksham-based mental health charity Wiltshire MIND has already topped £2,190.

The Mighty Titans at the New Era Fitness Centre at Bowerhill, Melksham, have also raised more than £2,500 from an auction to cover their costs.

Sixteen runners plan to run more than 800 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groats in just seven days, starting ouly 28.

They are being led by gym owner D J Hussey, who said: “We’re ready to start today. Everybody is fit and raring to go.”

The appeal was inspired by D J Hussey’s father, Peter Hussey, who died when D J was only four years old, after suffering from depression.

The 16 runners will split into four teams of four runners, each responsible for running 31 miles, day and night, as the cross the country until they reach their destination.
