TWO men were arrested in the early hours of this morning following a burglary at the Co-Op in Winsley Road, Bradford-on-Avon.

Police were called by a member of the public who saw two men leaving the store covering their faces with pillows and with a large number of items including scratch cards at approximately 3.30am.

Officers attended the scene, and with information provided by witnesses and the help of police dog Max who tracked from the scene to a street in the town.

Further enquiries carried out by officers from Community Policing Team 4 led them to an address of interest where two men were located inside.

A large number of scratch cards were located and the men, aged 43 and 51, were arrested on suspicion of burglary.

They remain in Melksham custody for questioning this morning.

Acting Sgt Jemma Humphreys said: “I would like to thank the witnesses who reported this incident while it was happening and provided call handlers with a vast amount of information which helped us quickly identify and arrest two men.

“This was excellent work by Team 4 - I’d also like to thank our firearms officers who provided us with additional support, our police dog and his handler who were key to us locating these two individuals, and our control room colleagues.

“Although two arrests have been made, we are keen to appeal to any members of the public who may have seen any suspicious activity at the Co-Op in Winsley Road around 3am who haven’t contacted police already to please do so. We are continuing with our investigation into this incident and any information you have could be really helpful.”

A spokesperson for Co-Op said: “We are absolutely delighted that officers have managed to arrest two men in connection with this burglary and we would like to thank those who reported this incident to police, and the local Community Policing Team for their robust action in detaining these men.”
