KIKI Dee won’t go breaking any hearts when she headlines at the newly revamped Trowbridge Festival at Stowford Manor Farm later this month.

The singer, who is best known for producing Don’t go breaking my heart with Sir Elton John, and her musical partner of 22 years, Carmelo Luggeri, are one of many big names performing at the old spiritual home of the old Trowbridge Pump Festival.

In its place, thanks to a team of dedicated organisers, is the new Trowbridge Festival, which runs from July 20-22.

Kiki, who was contacted by the festival organisers through Facebook, says she is looking forward to performing at the intimate setting.

“When we were contacted by one of the organisers, Colin Peel, we thought it sounded fun,” she said.

“I had heard about the history of the old festival going for 45 years so it will be nice to be in an intimate setting, performing for a few hundred people and be part of this new festival.

“Carmelo and I don’t tend to do summer gigs, usually it is in the spring and autumn but we liked the look of this challenge and we are looking forward to performing at Stowford.”

The 71-year-old, who has enjoyed a glittering career that spans 55 years, will be joined at the festival by the likes of Beans on Toast; a hippy, a punk, a poet, a drunk, a die-hard romantic and an eternal optimist, singing simple songs that tackle significant issues.

Alongside them will be RVSP Bhangra Band, veterans of Glastonbury, WOMAD and Boomtown blend traditional Punjab music with dance beats and mainstream pop.

“We have grown fond of some venues across the UK, such as one in Bury, a festival in Halifax and one in Surrey so if we like this one we may be back,” she said.

“I still love what I do. If there comes a time when I lose motivation, I don’t hit the right notes or I lose that passion for it all, I may call it a day but for now, I am really enjoying the journey.”

Kiki still receives orchids and champagne from Sir Elton, three weeks her junior, on her birthday and she donates money to the Elton John AIDS Foundation on his birthday.

“I would like to perform with him again, maybe during this long retirement tour he is doing,” she said. To book go to https://www.trowbridgefestival.co.uk/book-tickets/
