OVER 360 pupils, staff and parents from St John's Catholic Primary School in Trowbridge set off on their own pilgrimage walk on Friday (July 6) morning as they did their part for share the journey, a campaign to raising awareness of the global refugee crisis.

The whole school took part in the walk which started from the school in Wingfield, and finished at to St Thomas Moore Church in Bradford on Avon.

The older children walked the whole seven miles but the younger children were dropped off along the route and joined in towards the end.

The aim of the global campaign set up by CADFOD, The Catholic Agency For Overseas Development, is to walk the distance of the globe, 24.900 miles.

Deputy head, Kim O’Rourke who organised the pilgrimage said: "As a school we have been focusing on encouraging the children to believe that event though they aren't an adult or a politician, they can still make a difference.

"Today was about bringing the school together as a community to share the journey, lots of parents, staff and volunteers helped out.

Headteacher Tracey Sessions said: "This walk really shows the children what refugees actually have to go through.

"They have to walk these kinds of distances in the heat, and our children will be able to understand more by doing this."
