AN ‘absolutely magical’ day took place at Trowbridge Town Park on Saturday as well over 10,000 people turned up for the annual Active Festival.

From 11am-4pm, it was a veritable feast of jam-packed activities, including a climbing wall, a huge water slide, a roller disco rink, sand pits, little jeep rides for children, helter skelter and much more.

Hayley Bell, head of leisure services at Trowbridge Town Council, said they estimated that 13,000 people along on the gloriously sunny day, that also involved local sports clubs coming down, stalls, crafts and fluffy alpacas too.

Town mayor, Dennis Drewett, said this was the busiest he had seen the park in a long time.

“It was an absolutely brilliant day. Congratulations to everyone who made this spectacular event possible,” he said.

“To have that many people is a tremendous effort by Active Trowbridge and the town council team.

“Sometimes people complain that Trowbridge does not have enough things going on but if you went along yesterday you would not think that.

“So many people enjoyed themselves - it was absolutely magical.”

This was the ninth edition of the event and it may have been the best yet.

“It was a wonderful team effort from everyone involved,” said Hayley.

“It would not have been possible without our sponsors, Platinum Motor Group, Chandler’s Travel and McCarthy and Stone.

“The feedback we have had has been so positive. We estimate that there were about 13,000 people which is fantastic.

“Some people travelled as far as Bristol, so it shows how popular this event is.”

Trowbridge Museum had a stand on the day and their volunteers helped children with getting involved in their discovery trail around the town.
