STAFF and customers at the Sainsbury’s supermarket in Melksham have raised a whopping £7,809.68 for Alzheimer’s Support in Trowbridge.
The charity was voted as the store’s charity partner for 2017-18, and staff and customers have raised the funds over the past year.
Mo Thomas, the store’s PR ambassador, said: “We’re absolutely delighted with the total.
“The money was raised through various fundraising activities, including book and cake sales.
“We’re very pleased with ourselves.”
Stephany Bardzil, the charity’s spokesman, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled. It is a really significant amount.
“We’d like to thank all those staff and shoppers who contributed.
“All the money will go towards our community groups and activities in Wiltshire.”
Each year, charities are asked to nominate themselves to become the store’s charity partner for the year.
Alzheimer’s Support was selected by customers after being shortlisted to the last three and receiving the most votes in-store and online.
This year’s charity partner will be the Wiltshire Air Ambulance, who have been selected with just under 3,000 votes from a total of 14 nominations.
The store hopes to raise more than £10,000 for the WAA over the next year.
