POLICE are investigating whether or not a series of burglaries in the town are linked.

Four different house break-ins took place between July 30 and August 2.

On Monday, July 30, two men attempted to gain access to a house in Pipistrelle Crescent at around 12.25am.

Between 10.30pm on July 30 and 7.30am on July 31, a laptop and a set of keys were stolen from a house in Walmesley Chase after the offender broke in through an unlocked front door.

A house in Cusance Way was then broken into, on July 31 between 12.30am-midday, via an unlocked door and a set of car keys were stolen. A dash cam and sat nav were then stolen from inside the car parked on the drive, before the car keys were left by the door.

Finally, between 10.30pm on August 1 and 5am on August 2, car keys were stolen from an unlocked house in Heather Close. The car keys were used to steal an Audi A6 but that was recovered at 8.30am that morning.

PC Charly Chilton, the community policing coordinator for West Wiltshire, said: “We are keeping an open mind as to whether or not these incidents are linked and our enquiries into each incident are ongoing.

“We understand the impact a burglary can have on victims and we are doing all we can to find those responsible for these incidents.

“We would encourage residents to be mindful of their home security, especially during the summer months when it can be tempting to leave windows and doors open.

"Always ensure front and back doors are locked, even when you are in the house to prevent people walking in without you knowing and always double check they are locked at night.

"Make sure valuable items are kept out of view and never leave spare keys in plant pots or under a doormat as thieves will find them.

"It's also important to ensure your car keys are not left near doors and windows.”

Anyone with information on any of these incidents should call police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
